Annual “Gift Card” Giving Tree

Standing in the foyer this weekend is our annual Giving Tree.Everyone is invited to join in this heart-warming tradition of giving Christmas gifts to those who are in need.  Again this year, we are asking for gift cards in place of gifts. This gives the recipients the joy of shopping and picking out the gift of their choice – something they really need or something they really wantIf you would like to be part of this tradition, please take an ornament from the tree, purchase the gift card, place it in an envelope with the tag on top, and drop it in the gift box located under the tree by December 14th. Each ornament represents a special someone in need. Your gifts will be distributed to those who might otherwise have a very bleak Christmas.

Do you know someone living in our area that is unbaptized or of another Christian faith that is thinking about becoming catholic or seeking some spiritual growth in his or her lives? Please contact the parish office or complete a form on the table in the back of church.

 Infant Baptism Policy for the
 Archdiocese of
New Orleans

In January 2014, the Archbishop issued a policy regarding the Baptism of infants, for the whole Archdiocese of New Orleans. The intent is to standardize practices that were, in the past, inconsistent in various church parishes. The proper manner in administering the sacrament of Baptism is set down for the universal Church in the Code of Canon Law. This policy does not alter the Code but assists in the execution of that code so that there is uniformity throughout the Archdiocese.

What Needs To Be Done Before Infant Baptism

  • …A child is considered a candidate for infant Baptism if they are not previously baptized and not yet considered at “age of reason”. This is usually around the age of 7.
  • …Request for infant baptism takes place in the church parish of residence. If a baptism is requested in another church parish, permission is needed from the church parish of residence.
  • …An information form is completed and kept as part of the permanent record in the parish along with other required documents.
  • …The parents of the child must sign consent to the Baptism.
  • …A copy of the child’s birth certificate is needed, from which the child’s surname is taken for the baptism record. This is kept as part of the permanent record.
  • …One parent must be Catholic and that parent signs a sworn testimony of their intent to raise their child in the Catholic Faith. It is kept with the permanent record. This is done at a meeting with the minister of the sacrament.
  • …One Godparent is required, but if two are given, one is male and one female. Someone of another Christian faith cannot be a Godparent but can be listed as a witness. Baptized Catholics cannot act as a witness.
  • …Godparents must be a minimum of 16 years of age, fully initiated Roman Catholics and regularly practices their Faith, without moral impediments. A signed, sworn testimony to this and their intent to actively assist the child in the Faith is kept with the permanent record. This is done at a meeting with the minister of the sacrament.
  • Parents and Godparents are required to attend a one time, in-depth Baptism seminar. Chris the King will offer the opportunity to attend this seminar on the first Monday of the month except during Lent. These seminars are open to all adults of CTK parish, who are prospective parents and Godparents. A certificate is issued upon completion and this satisfies the seminar requirement for any future infant Baptisms

Contact the church parish office for request for Infant Baptism at Christ the King

The first Monday of each month (except during Lent and holidays), a workshop is held where a parent or potential godparent is prepared for this important role of evangelization in the Church. The attendance of one of these workshops is required by the archdiocese for both parents and godparents. If you are interested in attending, our next workshop is Monday, January 5th, 7:00-8:30 pm in Church. A certificate is given for your record of attendance. Please contact the parish office for more information or notification of your attendance.
